Advocacy and Legal Rights
The KCDHH believes that advocacy is something that everyone can be involved with and is essential in making a difference. We have compiled a wealth of information about Advocacy and related issues to assist you. Check out our sites and learn more.
Everyday KCDHH receives calls from deaf and hard of hearing individuals and their families who are struggling to overcome barriers that they face as a result of their hearing loss. For example, a family with a high school age deaf child just moved to Kentucky and he and his parents want him to be educated in his local school district but he will need special accommodations or a deaf adult wants to attend a workshop or training offered to the public but he/she needs accommodations to participate.
The National Association of the Deaf can provide you with more information and "tips" on how to Advocate for Yourself.
Overcoming the barriers that deaf and hard of hearing people face on a day to day basis becomes easier as they become empowered and learn how to advocate for themselves effectively. One part of that empowerment is learning about their rights. KCDHH has been involved in providing leadership training opportunities for deaf and hard of hearing persons in Kentucky and their families when funding permits. If you would be interested in receiving leadership training when KCDHH offers the next opportunity or you want further information, please email the Request For Information form. In the meantime, please read the information provided on this page to get started.
We hope it proves to be beneficial for you!
