What Kind of Equipment Should I Choose?

The Telecommunications Access Program (TAP) of KY, operated by KCDHH, provides Specialized Telecommunications Equipment (STE) to Kentucky residents who meet eligibility requirements. The STE assists the consumer in obtaining equal access to telecommunications.

Listed below is equipment currently available through TAP. Other equipment may be identified and added to the STE list as new technology is developed.

You may print a copy of the insert that describes each peice of equipment available through the program.

Equipment CANNOT be exchanged once distributed. If you have any questions regarding which device is right for your needs, please discuss it with your audiologist, speech pathologist, physician or other qualified professional.

    Amplified corded telephone designed for peole who are hard of hearing and may have a visual disability. Adjustable amplification up to 35 dB, makes calls 70 times louder. High contrast jumbo-sized buttons with Braille characters for easy dialing, 10 programmable memory buttons, super loud adjustable ringer (up to 100dB), adjustable tone selector and extra bright ring flasher. Hearing aid and t-coil compatible and jack for direct connection to assistive listening devices. Hold and Redial buttons and three one-touch dedicated programmable emergency numbers with braille characters. Signal processor minimizes background noise and enhances speech clarity.

    Amplified corded telephone designed for use by individuals who are hard of hearing and have a weak voice. Powerful amplifier up to 48 dB increases incoming voice volume and the outgoing voice can also be amplfied. Backlit, big buttons for dialing ease, bright voice mail indicator, hearing aid t-coil compatible, 12 memory buttons for one-touch speed dialing, audio output jack for connection to headset, neck loop or cochlear implant. Advanced noise reduction technology filters out background noise for superiour sound quality and clarity.

Hearing aid compatible, audio jack for use with assistive listening devices, 10 memory buttons and 3 emergency speed-dial keys. Bright ring flasher alerts you visually to incoming calls. Outgoing volume button lets you increase the volume of your outgoing voice slightly and phone also has a built in speakerphone.

    Amplified corded telephone designed for use by severely hard of hearing individuals. Amplifies incoming voice up to 45 dB, adjustable ringer up to 95 dB. Large dial pads with high contrast for optimum visibility, back lighted LCD and keypads. 2-way speakerphone with adjustable volume, compatible with hearing aids and t-coil, 100 number memory, clock and timer, caller ID and call waiting ID function.     Amplified cordless telephone designed for use by slightly hard of hearing individuals. Black in color. 30 dB of clean, clear boosted volume with volume control and adjustable ringer volume. External jack for use with neckloop, cochlear implant or external speaker. Digital answering machine and speakerphone, caller ID, call waiting ID function, hearing aid and cochlear implant compatible. 30 caller ID memory and 10 number speed dial. Handset locator.

     

    CapTel - Captioned Telephone CapTel - Captioned Telephone

    Amplified telephone with captioned display for use by individuals who are hard of hearing, or deaf with good speech abilities. Users place a call in the same way as dialing a tradtional phone and are automatically connected to a captioning service using voice recognition technology. The written text appears almost simultaneously with the spoken word on a bright, easy to read display window. Instructions and training provided on videotape.

    35 dB amplification, 24 character 5 line LCD display, external jack for neckloop for assistive listening devices. Tone and volume control, last number redial, memory with conversation review. Works as a voice carry over telephone as well.

    Captions for incoming calls must be dialed through an 800 number to the captioning service, or set up with two incoming telephone lines. Device does not translate spoken words into written captions without going through the captioning service.

    People with a low volume voice can control the loudness that the listener hears through a control switch on the handset, up to a 26 dB gain. Hearing aid compatible with last number redial button and tone or pulse dialing.

    Individuals with a low volume voice and a moderate hearing loss can control the volume of both incoming and outging voices.     This wireless remote contolled speakerphone gives you one-touch access to dialing, answering, and memory scanning from up to 40 feet away. Voice activated, answers calls with the sound of your voice.


    OPTIONAL accessories are available to control the phone but are NOT provided by this program. Air Switch = control by blowing, Lapel microphone = enhances weak voice, Headset microphone = ensures privacy, Pillow switch = control with body movement.

     

    TeliTalk Speech Aid Telephone TeliTalk Speech Aid Telephone

    For use by individuals who have had laryngectomy surgery or ALS patients who are speech impaired. Works as an artificial larynx while directly connected to the telephone.


    Amplified phone and phone-powered speech aid, direct audio output, speakerphone and memory dialing.



     

    Ameriphone Dialogue Voice Carry Over phone w/30 db Uniphone 1140 Telephone with VCO/HCO/TDD/Amplified features

    Designed to enable persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, speech impaired or hearing to use the same telephone. A combination text telephone (TDD) for the deaf, amplified telephone for hard of hearing individuals, with voice carry over (VCO) for those who can speak but cannot hear and hearing carry over (HCO) for those who can hear but cannot speak.


    Amplified volume control up to 20 dB, 4 row 52 key QWERTY keyboard, 2 line 48 character LCD display w/backlight, adjustable ringer volume. Hearing aid compatible, turbo code and auto ID, printer port and 10 speed dial buttons. Direct connect to phone line, auto answer with programmable message and built in ring flasher.

    Designed for people with severe hearing loss or deafness that still want to use their voice to communicate. Voice carry over calls must be placed through the toll-free relay service.


    Speak into the handset and read responses on the screen. Adjustable amplification up to 26 dB, hearing aid compatible, 12 programmable memory dial buttons, adjustable loud ringer and visual ring flasher. Built in answering machine, easy to see oversized keypads and audio jack for assistive listening devices. Works with LVD or portable printer (not included).

    TDD designed for individuals who are deaf or speech impaired.

    2-line, 80-character display with 1/2 inch tall letters. Built in printer, true size computer style keyboard, built in caller ID, Turbo Code, TTY Announcer, Relay Voice Announcer, Last number redial and auto answer. Time/date printed at the beginning of each call. Uses standard 8 1/2" wide thermal paper (not provided) 32K memory to store conversations, direct connect with 2 telephone jacks, flasher alerts you to incoming calls.

     

    SUPERPRINT PRO 80 with Large Visual Display (LVD)

    A large visual display (LVD), installed on a Superprint Pro 80 TDD. LVD displays the typed messages magnified ten times larger than that of the standard TDD display. The large visual display is not available with any of the other equipment and additional verification on vision loss is required.

    This unit will provide accessibility for DEAF (with LIMITED VISION) consumers.

    Portable TDD designed for individuals who are deaf or speech impaired. Full featured TDD designed to fit in purse, pocket or briefcase (8.8" x 3.9" x 1.2"), 32K memory stores memos, phone numbers, etc. 80-character, 2-line display, TDD announcer, 57-key, 4-row keyboard with easy touch ketys, baudot code. Compatible with most cellular phones (check with your provider). Rechargeable battery last 7-10 hours, AC adapter included.

    Designed for use by deaf or speech-impaired individuals.


    Built in 24-character printer, direct connect with two telephone jacks, 32K memory to store numbers, turbo code, auto ID, remote message retrieval, bulit in ring flasher. Used with tone or pulse dialing, convenient GA/SK keys, TTY Announcer, Relay voice announcer, auto ID. Baudot code, memory dialing, auto answer, 3 way calling.



    Ultratec Uniphone 1140 w/20 db PocketComm

    Designed for use by individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, speech impaired or have other communication disabilities. A portable, pocketsized text telephone with voice carry over.


    Dimensions 3 1/4" x 4" x 7/8". Weight 11 oz with batteries. 40-character 2-line display onbacklighted LCD, 25 function keys, 4-row keyboard, carrying case with space for spare batteries. 2.5mm jack for cellular or cordless phones, 32K of memory, LCD signal for incoming and outgoing messages, microphone for VCO users, elastic strap adapts to any phone. Uses two rechargable batteries and includes a 3V DC power adapter.

    Braillephone Braillephone

    The Braillephone is a portable braille telephone device designed for use by individuals who are deaf blind. This device can be used for telephone communication or it can be used for face-to-face communication between a person who is deaf blind and any other person using a telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) or deaf relay service. It includes a signal detector which emits a strong vibration when the telephone detects a ring, busy signal or voice response. Verification of blindness and ability to type and read braille is required to be eligible for this device.



    Signaling Devices - In addition to choosing one peice of telephone equipment, eligible consumers may also choose one signaling device at the same time they select the telephone equipment.

    Designed for people with moderate to profound hearing loss.


    Adjustable ring volume control up to 95dB, adjustable tone control, four selectable ringing patterns, visual ring flasher, plug in AC adapter, rechargeable battery backup.



     

    Ring Elite (TR-75)(Visual) Ring Elite (TR-75)(Visual)

    Designed for deaf and profundly hard of hearing individuals. Light plugged into signaler flashes to alert user to incoming calls. Draws very little phone line power


    Plugs into an electrical outlet and modular telephone jack. Lamp on/off button allows use for signaling and normal lighting. Indicator light and power cord with plug outlet.

    Designed for deaf, hard of hearing or individuals who need both a loud tone level and a bright light source for notification that the telephone is ringing.


    Audible alarm up to 95 dB, adjustable tone and volume. Large, bright strobe flashes with signal tone. Jack for optional bed vibrator (not included) for vibration alerting. Alarm modes can be switched (audible only, audible and flash, or flash only) Uses AC adapter. Wall mountable.
